I waited a long time for this one. When I got an email from Dick Beyer telling me that it was finally available, I couldn't wait to not only get it, but read it. This is a fascinating story about a true "Living Legend", and one of the most interesting and intriqing characters the pro wrestling business ever saw climb into a ring. From his earliest beginnings, to his retirement from the squared circle, "Masked Decisions" is a book that you won't be able to put down.As a young journeyman in the 1950's, Beyer colorfully creates a visual picture of the wrestling scene in the territorial days. And then in 1962, the legend, "The Destroyer" was born! Not by his own choosing in the beginning, but soon, the mask wisked away humble Dick Beyer, and gave the promoters and the fans, a wrestler that was always guaranteed to electrify them.Over the course of his career, Beyer, the Destroyer, and in between, Doctor X, carved out a ring record that is second to no one else in wrestling before or since. All the big stars of his era are included in his memories: Freddie Blassie, Giant Baba, Verne Gagne, Lou Thesz, Rikidozan, Hard Boiled Haggerty, Don Manoukian, Art Michalik, and even Gorgeous George. Pretty decent book. I watched the Destroyer on Channel 8 in San Diego, with a very young co-host of a morning show called "Sun-Up": Regis Philbin. The Destroyer was a lot better when he was a heel, in my opinion. But all in all, Beyer does a nice job with this book - telling the good, the bad and the ugly. His time in Japan was remarkable. And he helped a lot of promoters all over the territories in reviving their arenas. He seemed like a very decent guy outside of the ring, too....

An engaging, well-researched study of one of the true legends of the professional wrestling industry. Possibly the most well-known masked man in the history of the business (not to mention an national icon in Japan), his story also covers his pre & post pro career as an athlete and coach, and tells of the cost of the choices made to become the best at what he does. An enjoyable read for the non- wrestling fan, and a must-have for any true fans' library.

I download this book to my Kindle. Great buy! I enjoyed the book. My favorite part of the book was his story and his life in Japan. Dick Beyer truly was an ambassador for the United States. His humility, respect, and love for Japan was never understated. I especially liked his decision to travel and wrestle around the world. He was definitely a pioneer as a world class pro wrestler. As a LA region wrestling fan, I was more disappointed. I was hoping for more detailed stories from the region. I grew up when the Destroyer was introduced. I always was fascinated by his wrestling ability, mystique, and intelligence. He was great on the mike! I have so many vivid memories of seeing at the San Bernardino arena. He and Blassie were my favorites during the era of the WWA. This book is worth buying. I am currently trying to secure an hardback autograph copy for both my brother and myself. If anyone knows how, let me know. I have went to the web site and asked. So, I might get an answer soon. Buy the book. On Kindle, the photos are not that great.

A great biography of an interesting sports figure that not very many people knew outside of the Pro Wresting forum. Well written and really helps the reader understand what it's like to be up and down in your chosen profession. Obviously, Dick was a showman with a REAL person down inside. I'd recommend it to anybody.

This is an athletic/academic inspiring history of a coach,mentor,teacher, and businessman who holds a Masters Degree and just happens to be a world renown professional wrestler. His physical and athletic skills have enabled him to travel the world and win the acclaim of not only his fans but his peers as well. "The Destroyer" has created a life that has no twilight or no "just fading away" to it (like General Mc Arthur). His boundless energy and genuine interest in other people should serve as a reminder to us all that life is a cornucopia of friends and endless learning. I am looking forward to "Mr" Beyers next book when he celebrates his 90th. We thank him for sharing his memories and thoughts with us.

Pretty good read, Beyer was one of my favorites as Dr X, and at the time, I had no idea who he was.(kayfabe ruled) His career was like no other in his day. If you were a fan, this is fun to read, shows an insight in what it took to become a world wide Superstar in a day of a much different wrestling world!

Took me back to my childhood and teenage and early teens when my hero the Destroyer was theWWA Champion in Los Angeles. Enjoyed every page one of the best I have read about a pro wrestler.
