Ruth Neray is able to intensely reflect upon her experience. That is what makes this story "stand out". I particularly appreciated that ability, not only during her years fearing for her life, but the years following. She is able to look at all of those years -- the joyful person she was before the years of fear -- the changes that occurred in her outlook on life during the years of terror -- and the detached and numb person she became following those years. Finally she shares how she became " a human" again through the love of her children. The book offers her reflection, but also challenges the reader to reflect on oneself.Unfortunately, the editing is very poor -- not just misspellings, but incorrect words throughout. This is a shame, particularly in view of the nature of the story.

The most emotionally charged and moving account of a concentration camp survivor I have ever read. Ruth's horrific transport from France to Auschwitz then her agonizing fight for survival rate in her eight months in the camp filled me with sadness and empathy.
