Miriam Nelson was undoubtedly one of the more successful and busiest of choreographers and show directors with a career spanning Broadway, movies, television, Las Vegas and a variety of pageants. She started out as a dancer in New York then moved to Hollywood and the movies. in addition to her talent, she had a great deal of luck. How many hopefuls get signed by a studio on their first day in Hollywood! Although she never became a star, she became well known to producers and directors (and stars) as a dancerand choreographer, while forging life long friendships with Gordon and Sheila McCrae, Doris Day, Marge and Gower Champion and a host of others.Miriam Nelson seems to have been a hardworking professional and a thoroughly generous and warmhearted woman. Her book gives a real insight into just how dance scenes are created and filmed (including tap synching thesounds of a tap dancer). Not only dances have to be choreographed but fights, party scenes (as in Breakfast at Tiffany's), just about any crowd scene. She has amusing anecdotes about working with some of the greats such as William Holden and Kim Novak in Picnic (yes, she is responsible for that unforgettable dance scene), Jack Palance, a very young Paul Newman, Judy Garland, Dean Martin and a host of others. She does not have a mean thing to say about anyone but paints a clear picture of hardworking stars and crews and just what is involved in putting on a show. A very enjoyable read!

Miriam is very candid and upbeat. Her little stories are like rare gems. A positively fun book of her life working with some of Hollywoods famous. She comes across as very gracious even when life gave her lemons. They dont make em like this anymore.

This book held my interest from beginning to end. Miriam Nelson has led a very exciting life and I enjoyed living vicariously!

If you are in to celebrity gossip from the '40's and 50's THIS book is for you! Very interesting and in a few cases, SHOCKING!

A pretty boring account. Interesting people she met, but the book is a slow repetitive read.

The "Forward" touted on the cover (where was the editor?!) by Blake Edwards & Julie Andrews is one of the shortest on record -- 28 words -- but that can be forgiven because of the rest of the book. Nelson tells stories with a fine sense of humor and a grateful heart. She's obviously hard-working and classy, and offers an honest view of her chosen profession.

Have actually met this wonderful lady and she is terrific and pretty sharp for her age! It is a great read and really interesting, as she has known and worked with so many stars! You will learn loads about Hollywood from this book.
